This looks like a riot.
Ohmigod, I just watched THE best movie ever: Fast Forward. Made in '85 it features a healthy dose of ballet/breakdancing "dance-offs" between rivals-preps and punks, and white tights with leather jackets. Need I say more? For some reason dance-offs just send me into hysterics. If only every fight could be resolved this way...

I've started reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime.I'm only about a quarter of the way through and it seems great so far-the main character is an autistic boy. I'll keep you posted on how it is.

I had a great morning before work today: Ed and I wandered over to the Farmer's Market in East Van. We bought funny looking zucchini called Eight Ball zucchini and yummy baby potatoes. There was a table of amazing body creams and soaps (Kasandra's Soaps and Sundries). I would have bought some of their Mango body butter: smelled so good I would have eaten it, or one of their lavender soaps, but I hadn't planned ahead for money-everything is cash there.
It's funny how much more appetizing everything looks when its not withering under the milky flourescent lights of safeway, and presented in cute little wooden crates. Potatoes just look better in wooden crates!

I'm looking forward to seeing American Splendor when it comes out finally-it looks kind of quirky, and this one, and and of course this one.

I spent over an hour in Textile Clearance House today searching for the perfect pattern for a summer dress. I know, its a bit late for that, but that will just make me sew faster, then I got really into chuckling over the costume patterns, and thought it would be fun to dress in Civil War gear-just joking. I poked around in the fabrics for a while and found some obnoxiously pink flowery cotton for my dress. There was a lot of cozy looking cordouroy and some pretty Japanese style prints as well. I've been trying to distract myself from the creepy power outage news coverage. I wish I hadn't watched Terminator 3 the other day... SKYNET! If you're wondering why so many links in the last couple posts, I've just learned how to do them from Ed, so now they're fun.

I think I need a Gocco printer. Yes, I've decided it would make my life complete. It's a cute and fun looking little machine that has actually been around for about twenty years...it lets you print onto stuff like fabric, paper.

I just got back from an evening swim in the ocean, at Kits beach. I was the only one splashing around...it was like a kind of warm bath, Hawaii breeze and shimmery city lights all around me, waves the size of half of me. I could have stayed out there for a long time, it gets sort of meditative. Ed sat with me and played his Game Boy beside bongo drums and beach fires. I thought beach fires weren't allowed...then all of a sudden someone was tossing those crazy fire sticks.

Ha ha, I'm so lazy...I have a denim skirt that has been waistbandless for about three years now. I just don't want to go into waistband territory, so I got my Mom to put one on for me. That is my sewing style, do some, then get Mom to do the rest...oh I know, it's shamefull.
I'm listening to Cat Power right now, and contemplating lunch.
I was just looking at Kerri Smith's website www.kerrismith.com She has a cute little thing about Chinatown and all the treats you can find there. I don't need any convincing.

I'm obsessed with the disgusting Tostidos orange cheese product that you eat with tortillia chips. Yes, it's like ingesting plastic, and I always feel remarkably ill afterwards. It goes great with lime Perrier though, and thus it's harmful properties are cancelled out.
I just finished a crazy book tonight called Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight, shocking and honest, it's a memoir of this woman's early life in Africa, and how racist her parents were. It was my read in between Harry Potters.

I'm working on tiny sketches right now. I got inspired by the drawing show at the art gallery. I really enjoyed seeing the different pieces from the Royal Art Lodge and also the big half room sized piece from Margaret Kilgallen-I was pretty in awe of that one. I think I really enjoy seeing drawings because of the detail.

Okay, okay...I've been really lazy with my little blog here...so here goes:
I've been trying my hand at beading lately, some bracelets and dangly earrings. Its a relaxing hobby I think (I really like tiny things), but hard on the eyes and posture. I have given up on knitting, just for a bit now, because of course it is summer and I can't really think of warm scratchy fabric right now! Cooking is fun lately too-especially because Ed and I won a toaster oven when we went to his high school reunion, and being that I like little things, it is almost like using an "Easy Bake Oven" or something and I've been putting things like macaroni and cheese in ramekins.
I've also been going to some Cinemeurte films lately, like Ed's film Graveyard-hilarious and great (of course!).
I'm listening to Thor's Thunderstruck album right now and I swear one song has got to be Bon Jovi. Just doesn't fit.

I did follow through and actually sewed my blue summer skirt. I just have to hem it yet. For some reason, little things like hemming drive me nuts and force me to procrastinate to no end and start other projects instead. Wouldn't it just be easier to hem the bloody thing? Anyways...
There is a sort of new pet supply store underneath our apartment in the building. It has the worst sign known to human kind. It's called Pet Place but is set up so both words share the P so it looks like Pet Lace. Ed and I went in there today to get dog food and apparently they are going to be selling animals real soon, which also means lots of night time barking and Farley squealing...
The weather is grey grey grey right now. Pouring down chilly rain. I know it will be spring soon, I have seen the bright tulips everywhere and other cool spring time flowers.

Well, I've finally finished knitting my black scarf. It is more uneven that I thought it would be, but it is at least warm! Now I just have to finish my purple fuzzy long scarf and then that's it for scarves till next winter. I'm working on a pink dishcloth though right now. I'm thinking of sewing a shower curtain in a nice springie green colour. There is this place called Textile Clearance House on Fraser Street that Dianne from work brought me to the other day-I was in heaven! Some really awesome and hilarious fabrics ranging from reptile prints to make your own pillow things-all for really cheap, plus I got a five dollar membership and that saves even more money!

I'm now trying to cut down my coffee consumption a bit. It makes me too nervous. It's tough though, especially when I'm at work.
On the bright side, I went to Dressew the other day to look for crafty things, and was pleasantly surprised. I got a wall mounting plant holder with four little white plant thingies for a dollar ninety nine, and some pillowcase material too, in a nice lavender dusky sky colour. I almost bought more patterns but restrained myself as I have a million clothes to finish and start sewing anyway.

I'm heading off to the gym for the first time in weeks. I need copious amounts of coffee to get through it.

Thursday, March 06, 2003

I just had to sit through the worst music on the radio that turned my brain to metal.

My black scarf is almost done. It's only taken me about two months to work on. Soon it will be spring and no longer scarf weather...then I'll move onto change purses.
